In this post, we take a look at Pokémon Go communities and events in Kent.

Pokémon Go is an augmented reality mobile game developed and published by Niantic for iOS and Android devices. A part of the Pokémon franchise, it was first released in certain countries in July 2016, and in other regions over the next few months.

Places in Kent to play Pokémon Go

Before we get into this section, I have to confess that this edition will not be particularly comprehensive. I still have a lot to learn about where the community plays in other parts of Kent. If I have missed anything, please fill in the blanks in the comments.

Canterbury Pokémon Go

Howletts Wild Animal Park near Canterbury is a popular Pokémon GO location. Not only does Howletts Wild Animal Park encourage ‘trainers’, but they actually run various competitions too.

Players often gather at the Kent University Campus during Pokémon Go community days. (See the blog posts section for more on that).

Thanet Pokémon Go

During community days, the Clock Tower in Margate is a popular gathering place for players. Players often congregate there to take advantage of the seating and the large numbers of stops close by.

Pokémon Go social media

There are a number of location-specific discord channels that you can join. Some (like the Kent group) are for the entire county while others (like the Thanet group) have a more local feel. Discord groups are a great way to find other people to do the higher level raids with.
