White Horse Wood Country Park

White Horse Wood has over 20,000 trees – oak, ash, silver birch, wild cherry and crab apple. Five hectares have been seeded to create an area of open grassland. The park contains the medieval ruins of Thurnham Castle built on top of the Downs with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside of the Kent Downs AONB. Also within the boundaries, there are traces of an Iron Age settlement in the woodland area, which adds even more historical interest to this new country park.
Set in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, White Horse Wood Country Park offers beautiful countryside, local history and panoramic views. Perfect for a picnic or walking the dog, you’ll also be able to explore the medieval ruins of Thurnham Castle.
The main path at White Horse Wood is flat and wheelchair-friendly and allows you to navigate most of the park. Unfortunately there are no visitor facilities at our country park.
Car parking machines are at a height suitable for wheelchair use and require users to enter their car registration numbers.
Thurnham Castle is a separate part of the country park and is accessible by foot from the main country park and car park by way markers. The main path at the park is flat and wide. There are a number of kissing gates that link one side of the park to the other, which are not navigable in a wheelchair.
